Mason-G203
"Never thought I'd say I'd actually be on good terms with a Spartan. A year ago, I'd have thought all you'd get from one trying to be their friend would be evils and quiet contempt. But no. Mason's actually a pretty decent guy, behind all that Spartan armour and all the fucked up stuff ONI did to him and the others. While I'm certainly regretting wanting to be a Spartan when I was a kid, I don't regret being on good terms with him. Probably the only Navy man who's not a yellow-belly."
Sergeant Joel Baker
"An ODST NCO, from back home. We were in the same places, during the Fall of Reach, but we'd never met each other. Probably a good thing, too. We never had the cleanest track record for inter-service rivalry, even in the midst of the end of the world.
Here, though, it's more 'us and them' than it was even back home. There's UNSC and then there's not. Forgetting about all the petty dick-measuring that goes on back home, he's actually a good guy.
I'm not bitter about the fact he got evac'd out of New Alexandria after the glassing whilst me and mine got left to die. Well...not as bitter as I thought I'd be, anyway. He listened to me recount to him what he missed afterwards, instead of falling asleep on me. He respects what the Army did on Reach. He remembers.
Top bloke."
Thor the Elite General
"I seen what you did to us, back home. I don't know if you had your reasons and I don't much give a shit. You burned our world to ash, you slaughtered millions of us without so much as a second thought because of your bullshit religion told you to.
My friends, all gone. None of them got a second chance to live, like me. All because of you. I have to suffer through this shit like purgatory. Because of you.
Every single one of those people was more deserving of life than you or yours ever was.
And just because you freaks got a taste of your own medicine for a few weeks, you think everything is forgiven and forgotten about?
No. I'll always remember what you did. I'll always remember Reach. And if you don't, I'll be glad to help you remember, too."
Doctor Pa'ele
"YOU, sir...are a dirty, creepy bastard.
I can forgive pulling a gun on me when I tried to save your ass from bleeding out.
Everything else I hear, though?
If you'd been back home with us, you'd be struck off if you even are a doctor, put on the register and thrown into a dark and dingy cell with big Tom the Toucher.
Can't say it'd be undeserved, either."
Rene the Zealot
"You'll get yours. Just like your piece of shit General pal, too. You'll pay for all you did to us. The only thing I feel bad about there is the fact you only get to die once."
Commander Kyle Reid
"Another ODST boy from back home. Just like with the Sergeant, I can leave any serious branch squabbles and dick measuring back home. He is an ONI spook, too. For all I know, ONI were the assholes who let Reach's location slip to the Covies. Because of them, we all burned. Now, he's as close to a leader as the UNSC personnel here as you can be.
But I can't hold that on him. He's been there for most of us, especially all us UNSC types. He even gave me a generator so I'm not quite as fragile as some of the others. I'm still no Spartan, though. Speaking of Spartans, he keeps Mason under control, mostly. Takes a braver man than me to collar a Spartan, knowing they can break your neck with one hand.
Still, he's done right by me. I wouldn't say we've shared drinks or anything, but we're not far from that."
Captain Stryder
"She's one of the first people I met when I got hot-dropped out of Azsod and into the multiverse, as fucking dumb as that sounds. Other than Royale, she's probably the closest thing the group has to an officer or leader. I don't envy that position. I never was officer material and seeing the shit this band of merry monkeys ends up knee-deep in, I think I dodged a bullet, there.
She used to be a lizard, too. Not like the Split-Lips, though. But she weren't winning any beauty contests, either. Then again, nobody really is, here. But she's human, now. At least on the outside. Much easier to look at and talk to.
She's also the only reason I managed to stave off finding a dark corner in the bunker to pop a Magnum round into my temple, after I saw that fucking Zealot. Everything just came rushing back to me. I could always remember it, even talk about it. But seeing that thing...it was just like being back on Szurdok Ridge, with the others.
She listened to me vent about some of my experience on Reach that led to that outburst in front of everyone. Turns out she was in the same boat, back wherever she came from, too. Roughly speaking, anyway.
Before that, she was just an officer, to me. Now, I actually view her as 'human'. Not actually 'human-human', but a person behind the rank, just like my old Skipper from Aszod."
Bulletstorm
"I actually feel pretty guilty about Bullet, now. The last major interaction I had with him before he died was that little dare in that shitty little medieval town. The one where I kissed him for fifty dust in a game of gay chicken. If I'd have known that'd have been the last time I'd have proper interaction with him...I'd at least have bought him dinner and a movie. Maybe he'd not have wanted to slit my throat quite as much as he did, then.
Jokes aside, though?, Damn. I never even got a chance to say goodbye or anything to him. That'll stay with me."
Innie Corporal Murphy
"Okay, okay, I fucking get it. You don't like the UNSC and we sure as hell don't like you. But more than you being an Innie, you can't help but preach about how we're all fascists or some dumb shit like that, despite most of us never having shot a round in anger at an Innie. The Covenant were a much higher priority.
I know he can say the same for me, but the dude really is blind to the point of his eyes being painted on his skull. He's a true believer in the Innie cause, sure. But he's a bit dense. He thinks Innie soldiers with guns and stolen UNSC equipment or uniforms are still civilians and we were wrong to engage and kill them. Guns and uniforms are literally what separates civilians from military and in a war, military targets are fair game.
It's that what-about-ism bullshit. Name something bad the Insurrection did and he deflects it with something the UNSC did. Sure, I can admit the UNSC did fucked up things, but I can assure you the Insurrection's rap sheet's way fucking longer. If we're both evil, then the UNSC's the lesser of the two."
Staples
"Another blue, same as Bullet. Only smaller and a medic instead of a heavy-spec like he was. Don't really know all that much about them. Other than the obvious, of course. Hating the other colours from back home and all. But I would be lying to myself if I said they didn't remind me of Bullet, a bit. They have the same personality as he did, roughly. Friendly, with a bit of scrappiness in the back seats. They seem to get on quite well with Mason and me because of that. I can't speak for him, but it's mostly because of who they are, for me. But there's still a bit of guilt about Bullet colouring my outlook on them. I still like them, it's just that I can always see him in them whenever I see them."
Lo Armistead
"Absolutely no points for fashion sense, or lack thereof. That shirt he insists on wearing is just all shades of awful, in my eyes. But other than that?, He seems like a proper stand-up guy. I don't have much interaction with him outside of 'work'...No. 'Business'?...No. 'Professional interaction'?...whatever. I only really talk to him when we're being shot at, basically. But what little I've seen of him, he's one of the leading figures of our group. Takes a braver man than me."
Floaty-Wizard-Guy
"This guy is a total creep and a weirdo, to boot. Not as bad as some other guys who've been part of the group and then had the good sense to disappear. But still, he's a freak. A 'know-it-all' smartass type, too. Insists on violating personal space, hygiene standards and I heard something about clone daughters too. No idea if that's true, but it'd be a new low if it were. Not in any rush to find out, though. The less I have to stay close to him, the better."
'Lance'
"Another Spartan, I think. He wears a MJOLNIR suit, anyway. But like Bullet, Staples and the other folks from where they're from, he hates other colours. I have no idea why. Especially since he comes from back home, too. He's just after my time. Reach was recent history for him, about a few months beforehand. But he tells me that the Covenant found Earth and he was pulled out of the line for some specialised war-games. It made zero sense to me. I was too busy being depressed about how the aliens found Earth after burning us all to shit. It almost made it seem like it was for nothing. But other than that?, he's alright. He press-ganged me into his team, though. It doesn't mean much to me, but blue was always my favourite colour, anyway."
Captain Jurgen Richter
"ONI Spook, just like the Commander. But he doesn't seem to take it all that seriously in comparison. The dude's an alcoholic and a junkie, too. The fact that he would have been my boss back home does feel like a kick in the nuts, I won't lie. If you so much as took a five minute doze-off on duty, even when there were no bad guys around, you got your ass chewed out. And if your NCO or Officer particularly hated you?, judicial punishment. But here's ONI, letting their officers be alkies and fiends. Whatever. Not important. Other than the official stuff he did at the start, he's surprisingly easy to talk to. A bit of an ass to the Spartan, though. But not to normal UNSC types like me."
